Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

The condition is typically marked by three main symptoms, inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. However, ADHD usually consists of a few different types that are used to highlight some marked differences between each.

The inattentive type of ADHD is usually applied to those who have difficulty with paying attention and staying focused on one task at a time.

While those with hyperactive-impulsive type of ADHD have trouble staying put and are often moving, interrupting, and fidgeting.

The third most common type of ADHD, and the most common overall, is the combined type, which includes symptoms from both of the above-mentioned.

ADHD Treatment in Atlanta, GA, & Washington, DC

Because ADHD cannot be cured, the treatment goals will always focus on your child's symptoms, minimizing their impact and thus helping to improve their overall quality of life.

For younger children, treatment may focus on the parents by providing coaching and teaching them how they can help their children succeed. When they're older, ADHD treatment usually includes a combination of both behavioral therapy and ADHD medication.

Both therapy and medication are key to improving your child's symptoms, and it will take time to determine the right dosage and to see the desired progress.
